Kickboxing: An Ancient Sport, Or Is It An Art?

Sunday, November 4, 2012
The art of kickboxing has been known in Asia for over 2,000 years. It became very popular in the United States in the early 1970’s. Kickboxing is considered to be a form of martial arts. It is very appealing to many individuals because it allows more contact kicks and punches than other forms of martial arts. Other moves include kick blocks, shadow boxing, sparring, and wood breaking. Due to the risk of injury, kickboxing has more safety rules for competition than other forms of martial arts.

Many people choose to take up the sport of kickboxing for their physical health rather than for competition. A kickboxing workout will get you in shape with the various moves and kicks involved. Your stamina will increase and you will get more flexible. It is also a great cardio workout. Kickboxing is a great sport for parents and children to do together.

Base Jumping: A Truly Extreme Sport

BASE jumping is not a sport for the faint of heart. Athletes who practice this extreme sport climb to the top of tall buildings, canyons, or other structures; jump off; enjoy a period of free falling; then open a parachute and coast to the ground.

The acronym BASE stands for building, antennae, span, and earth; which make up a comprehensive list of what kinds of fixed objects BASE jumpers plummet from. Span is a term that includes all sorts of bridges, or any other structures that span over a valley or chasm. Earth means anything from cliffs to mountains to canyons.

BASE jumping is very dangerous for a variety of reasons, but the most common causes of injury and death have to do with failure to maintain a clear area around the athlete during the jump and/or the landing. If the wind is against them or if they make a mistake during the launch of their jump, athletes sometimes collide with the object that they have jumped from. Because BASE jumping areas are usually not designated for this guerilla-style sport, the makeshift landing targets that jumpers aim for are rarely large enough to allow for a safe jump. As a result many BASE enthusiasts meet with serious and sometimes fatal injuries because they haven’t been able to steer themselves to the landing area in time.

The Next Great European Sport

Soccer is the major sport over in Europe; however, a new craze has begun. European football as taken off and promises to become as big a sport there as soccer. Many people in other countries outside of Europe, such as the Unites States, do not even realize that football is played in the European countries. When traveling to European countries visitors are quite surprised to find football stadiums as well as soccer arenas. Soccer will most likely always be Europe’s favorite sport, but football has been growing steadily in the past several years. And they have gained a faithful following of supporters as well.

The European football league does not compare to the United States football league by any means. Their stadiums are much smaller than the United States counterparts; however, this does not discourage the players or their supporters. In fact, many people think that the European stadiums are better than the Unites States stadiums even if they are much smaller in size. However, the placers in Europe play just as well as the players in the United States, and they keep their supporters coming back for more.

Four Good Reasons To Take Up Golf As A Sport

The Exercise

Golfing is one of the best exercises that you can do. I taught this fellow about ten years ago how to play golf. He had bypass surgery done on his heart, and his doctor told him to walk for exercise. So he asked me to teach him how to golf. He was a retired carpenter. Think about it for a second. There is 1760 yards in a mile. The average golf course is anywhere from 5000 yards to 6500 yards on some of the bigger courses, depending on which tee box you are playing from. They say the shortest distance between two points is in a straight line. Can you imagine the amount of walking you can do on any given course, if you’re not a straight hitter? Some golf courses make you take a golf cart because of the steep terrain. Golfing can keep you’re heart pumping at a good pace depending on the golf terrain. So if you have not walked a country mile. Take up golf and you will have you’re fair share of walking a country mile.

Heli Skiing and What You Need to Know About the Sport

Heli Skiing is one of the most exciting outdoors sports preferred by many sport enthusiasts. It is off trail skiing and is carried out with a helicopter rather than a ski lift. It is for this reason that it is known as extreme skiing since skiers are supposed to access terrain that is off-piste. In the last couple of years, the popularity of this type of skiing has skyrocketed and there are a couple of factors leading to this. It can be carried out in areas that have powder snow, long descents, corn snow that is smooth, steep slopes and natural terrain and features.

Heli Skiing operators pick skiers up and drop them off by helicopter on some of the best snowy sections. Once dropped, they have a full day to enjoy the magnificent scenery and have run after run down the mountain side. It is precisely for this reason that the popularity of Heli skiing has increased tremendously. Depending on the aircraft been used, the number of passengers on board will vary from one model to another and though this is the case, the number often varies from four to 12. There are several operations that offer private skiing for groups.

Football is More Than Just a Popular Sport

For most people, it's common fact that football is the most popular sport in the world. However, not everybody realizes the significant role football plays in many people's everyday life.

Eleven players grace the field for each team, playing with an unmatched combination of both speed and endurance. The game is all about skillful control of the feet, which is important not also but keeping balance but also controlling the game ball. In fact, the only football player allowed to use his hands is the goal, which is understandable in preventing an unfair advantage for the offensive team.

Throughout the world, football fans are known for their passionate loyalty. The sport is far more than just a game for most fans. Many games, especially those between international teams, have political undertones. Even between teams from the same country, rivalry leads to behavior that often gets out of hand. Fans commonly chant profane insults at the competing team's players and fans. Unfortunately, violence has found a place in the sport's culture. Every year, there are reports of players and coaches mysteriously reported missing or dead after losing a key match.

Football – Social Sport Of The Us?

Are you getting bored and yearning for some human company in your house? Well, all that you have to do is switch on the TV and invite your neighbor. Done. Just see how the atmosphere in the house is charged with electricity with all the screaming and shouting that is bound to happen! Just watching National Football League and United States Football League tackling the football is sure to raise the adrenalin.

Football is a game you can enjoy the most when you are in the company of others. It is not meant for lonely hearts. The heart throbbing of that winning goal, the nail biting dodging of the ball, the cursing and swearing that goes with the game is not for the weak hearted. Badminton – The Sport Everyone Loves

It’s fast! It’s fun! It’s so easy to learn that even five-year-olds can delight in playing it. More than just a game for families, badminton will soar you to the Olympics if you choose to perfect your skill level!

Badminton has captivated the hearts of the multi-generational family for decades, as the young toddler who hasn’t reached pre-school can play, as well as the grandfather and even the great-grandfather. Even the first-day novice can feel comfortable playing.

In England over 2 million people actively, regularly, play badminton.By combining skill, speed and subtlety, one can become a top pro.

The tools of badminton are simple: a shuttlecock often referred to as the ‘bird’ or the ‘shuttle,’ and a racket that is strung either with gut or synthetic fibre. The racket is usually about 26 inches long and only weighs about 5 or 5 ½ ounces. And, toddlers can handle the same weight racket as the parents -- if their hands reach around the handle. The cost of equipment?

What Is A Dual Sport?

A Dual Sport Motorcycle is basically a street legal dirt bike that can be ridden on the highway and also on trails. Often referred to as enduros or street legal off road bikes, they can be a lot of fun even for the more advanced dirt rider.

The 4 benefits of such a motorcycle are:

1. Not having to transport your motorcycle to an off road trail with a pickup or a trailer.

2. Versatility of highway and off road transportation in one bike.

3. Economic savings for your every day commuting needs(50 -75 mpg).

4. Legal and insurable recreation and transportation combined.

Choosing a Sport That is Right For You

The number one thing in my opinion to think about whether you are playing the right sport or not is how much fun you are having at the sport. To be perfectly honest there are other factors such as costs and injuries to consider. These are hard economic times right now in the eyes of many. So, for example, if a child's parent losses their job, the child might not have the proper health care in case of injury on the football field.

Obviously everyone has skill limitations. If a child is unable to maintain the dribbling of a basketball without double dribbling this can grow frustrating for a child who is trying to play basketball. This is particularly true in a league where the referees are trying to teach the kids the rules of the game and thus have to call a lot of double dribbling and traveling violations. If your child gets frustrated by playing something with too many rules, maybe they can consider being a baseball umpire or a basketball referee instead. Therefore they are the one who enforce the rules.

How Trampolining Can Be A Fun But Serious Sport

The sports of trampolining and tumbling are as old as man, a reflection of man's desire to defy the ever-pervading presence of gravity.

A number of cultures have devised apparatus to send an athlete into the air, i.e., an outstretched animal skin being used to throw up, and safely receive, the descending performer. Circuses have used a number of devices to show off aerial and floor somersault activity.

The way these activities are now practiced reflect the intrusion, delightful in this instance, of modern technology. Modern trampolining has only emerged in the last 40-50 years from the prototype apparatus built by George Nissen back in his garage in 1936.

The Air Force, and later the Space Agencies were not slow to employ trampolines with their pilots and astronauts. Medical authorities and those working with handicapped persons have found many exciting benefits from being able to use a trampoline. At the recreational level, trampolining has an immediate appeal, especially for the young people.

What Is An Extreme Sport?

An extreme sport is a category of sport that involves more thrills than competition. That is not to say that all extreme sports are strictly for the fun of it and there is no competition. For instance; skateboarding on special U shaped courses is judged and a winner declared. Another example is hot dogging. This is skiing in a manner that employs acrobatics. The judges decide who wins according to how well the competitors perform flips and such.

Other extreme sports do not involve competition at all. Bungee jumping would be a good example. Another example would be base jumping. Here the person simply participates for the thrill of it. Whether competition is involved or not, extreme sports are far more thrilling and normally far more dangerous than let's say a game of tennis or basketball. Thisextreme sport forum is to teach those who don't normally pay close attention to these activities how to differentiate extreme sports from normal sports.
